Christmas Blackbird

A holiday morning poem

distant quiet at dawn

on a silver soft morning

above on a limb

as I walk

the blackbird sings

its mournful caw

to the grace of

a day reborn

while the children wake

in the muted light

of beauty’s breath

tiptoeing into miracles

rosy cheeked

rising from forgotten sleep

into the wonder of angels
