Great piece, very interesting - I was keen to see an image of the Triskele though! My desk has so many similar items to yours: stones my boys have handed me years before, a feather, a bit of beehive, my dad's fountain pen. I look at these things daily. Especially love your son's bowl. I have a small grouping of noodle bowls made by local potters in what I consider to be 'Bloomsbury' shades of blue and purple. Whenever I go into my study I feel calm and understood. Thanks so much for this today! We're so fortunate, I feel that too.

Thank you David for acknowledging our need for animism, attribution of deeper meaning/ aliveness to inanimate tokens. I have a shallow dish of nature’s treasures on my altar at home. I finger them at times for memories of place and person. I just acquired a necklace with a pendant of a tree of life carved out of cow bone framed in a coconut wood handmade made by an indigenous woman in Costa Rica. I wear several of such necklaces to invoke protection.

Hmmm…have to think about this i.e. whether those items I haven’t yet got rid of are mementos (talismans) or simply items that my hubby or children have gifted me and I can’t get rid of them because of the identity of the giver. Hmmm…

I be think there’s some overlap on memento or talisman. It’s whatever gives you peace and magic.

They can be both! I'm in the same boat.
